End repression, torture and executions in Iran

In Iran the regime of Islamic Republic is continuing inhumane and atrocious acts. Just days ago, on Oct 26, two pro-democracy political prisoners, Habibollah Golparipour and Reza Ismaeli were executed. Concurrently in Zahedan, (a city in the South-East area of Iran) where 14 border guards had been tragically killed by a fanatical religious group (Jeshol Adle), the regime ruthlessly executed 16 Baluchi political prisoners. Golparipour and Ismaeli were arrested in 2009 by security agents. Like all other political prisoners they were physically and psychologically tortured until the day they died.

During the 34 year reign of the Islamic Republic dissidents and those who have different ideological views are often incarcerated, tortured and condemned to death, often by state-sponsored courts that do not abide by procedures proscribed internationally. In the last 4 months more than 150 individuals have been executed. Anytime that concerns are raised about the grave violations of human rights in Iran by advocators of human rights - for instance when the Iranian government is asked to let the UN representatives to visit the country to evaluate human rights in Iran - the regime reacts strongly and rejects outside investigation. In the words of Marzia Afghami, the spokes person of the Iranian foreign ministry, it is called “political” and “insult” to the people of Iran.

While we condemn the killing of the border guards, we ask of all defenders of human rights to protest the state repression and the violation of civil rights in Iran, in every way possible. Doing away with barbaric acts of torture and execution and unconditional freedom of all political prisoners would represent the most basic step toward establishing a democratic modern society. We hope for such a free and just society in Iran
